FAQ & Policies
1. Where are you located and do we meet for surf lessons,stand up paddle ,surf tours or surf camp?
We are located primarily at 707 Pacific Beach Dr. We are situated right next to Lifeguard tower 22 you will see two red canopies right outside The Blue Sea Beach Hotel.
2. How early should I arrive?
Parking, especially on weekends can be a challenge, so allow yourself at least 30 minutes before class to ensure a parking spot. If you are running late this will cut into your lesson time.
3. What if I am late or my flight is delayed?
Cancellations: for a full refund must be done 72 hours in advance in writing with your reservation code and last 4 digits of your credit card. Under no circumstances are voicemails or phone calls accepted for processing refunds. Pacific Surf is not responsible for delayed flights or costs incurred for flights, no shows do not receive a refund. For re-scheduling in less than 12 hours prior to the start of your lesson,you may call our office to re-schedule and pay a $25 re-scheduling fee for another time that is convenient for you. If you cancel a lesson within 48 hours prior to the start of your lesson you will receive a 50% refund.
4. Where should I park?
There is a small Parking lot on Pacific Beach Drive as well as a underground parking garage (paid) There is also plenty of street parking along Mission Blvd. and throughout the nearby neighborhoods.
5. What should I bring to a PB Surf School surf class?
Come already wearing your swimsuit and bring a towel, sunglasses, hat, and a change of clothing. I recommend sunscreen of SPF 30 + prior to leaving home. You want to stay hydrated at the beach so water and drinks are a must. There are vendors in the area to buy water
6. What should my child bring to camp?
Campers should bring a labeled back pack or bag, bring a healthy lunch(All day camp) and snacks, pocket money if desired, long sleeve sweatshirt or jacket, towel, sunscreen, shoes, and a drink.
7. What time is camp drop off and pick up?
Morning camps drop off is from 8:30 am onwards pick up 12:30 pm
All Day Camps drop off at 8:30 am and pick up at 3pm parents that are running more than 30 mins late for pick will incur a $25 fee by the hour which covers the cost of our staff.
8. What should I do if I wear contacts?
If you wear disposable ones you will be okay. Otherwise, you can wear an old pair and close your eyes tightly when underwater. You may also want to use swim goggles.
9. What is the water temperature like?
During the summer months the water temperature ranges between 65ºF – 71ºF. in California.
10. Do you provide wetsuits and equipment?
We provide you with all equipment all you need to bring is lots of energy and a big smile and we’ll take care of the rest.
11. Do we have to use your wetsuits or can I bring my own?
You can wear your own wetsuit! If you don’t want to wear a wetsuit it is advisable that you bring a pair of surf shorts/board shorts to use with a rash guard that we provide for you.
12. What kind of instructors do you have?
All of our instructors are professional and experienced surfers,lifeguards,paramedics,soul surfers, certified in CPR and First aid and certified in Open Water safety.
13. Do you offer any discounts?
We offer discounts to groups larger than ten people, birthday parties, and discounts advertised by PB Surf School.We also offer siblings discounts for families that sign up for camp with 2 or more siblings. Please contact our office for instructions.
14. Do you rent surf boards after our lessons?
You are welcome to further rent surf boards after your lesson if we have the equipment available.
15. Are there restrooms or changing rooms nearby?
There are Public Restrooms with in walking distance of our Surf Spot! **Please wear bathing suit underneath your clothing for quick change.
16. How good of a swimmer do I need to be?
You need to be able to swim with your head above water and must be able to swim to shore. Smaller kids and weak swimmers will be kept in shallow waters and our instructors are always with the students at all times!!!!
17. What kind of preparation can I do to help my surfing?
Overnight campers can prepare your bodies at least one month prior to camp by swimming, stretching, doing push ups, rowing exercises and preparing your biceps and triceps. Yoga is an excellent compliment for people who take surfing seriously.
18. What kind of diet is recommended for surfers?
Surf is a very dynamic sport and you need lots of energy and explosion. A good balanced healthy diet is always recommended for any physical activity. Please consult your physician if in doubt.
19. Are there stores and restaurants in the area?
Our school and overnight camps are situated within close distance to plenty of popular restaurants and clothing stores and supermarkets. Including: World Famous, Woody’s and tons of local taco shops to try San Diego’s famous Fish Tacos!
